Overcome Fear

Resistance Is Futile

I recently did a workshop where some of the participants were “tweaked” by certain things I said or did in the workshop. There were things that happened that bothered them—these circumstances “made” them feel uncomfortable. Whenever anything in your life creates an emotional charge for you, you have found something that you need to let go of in order to have a more joyful life.

Another word for these patterns of thought and feeling is resistance. When we feel this kind of pushing against what is, we are experiencing the effects of fear-based survival mechanisms. These automatic systems react to circumstances, they do not have the ability to respond. To “re-act” is simply to act the exact same way we have in a previous circumstance. When we act in a “responsible” manner we “respond” “ably” according to the needs of the actual present moment—not according to some pre-programmed response.

Whenever anything happens that brings up less-than-completely-desirable thoughts and feelings, look beneath the surface. Under thought thoughts and feelings is a survival mechanism that was created to prevent the recreation of another wound. That original wound was originally created according to an interpretation of a event that led to feelings of fear.

This is always the way it works. It is now time for many more people to become aware of this process so that we can heal the past, perceive the present moment accurately, and create a future that is more in line with what we truly want, because we are no longer afraid of creating one that reminds us of a less-than-desirable past.
