Overcome Fear

The One Challenge We Face

I believe that there is only one fundamental challenge the human race faces.

It’s FEAR.

Many may disagree with me, saying that it can’t be that simple, or if it is that simple, it must be something else like pride, sin, evil, aliens, conspiracies, economics, money, the love of money, greed, anger, hatred, Satan, the media, human nature, etc.

Hear me out.

What I see beneath all of these supposed first causes of all of the challenges we face as individuals and as a species is fear.

I’ll give you a few examples to make my case.

Let’s say someone is really angry and full of hatred which causes them to do all kinds of harm (like Hitler or a terrorist). People who feel these feelings often have fears like the following:

  • I’m afraid I’m not good enough.
  • I’m afraid I’m not worthy of love and respect.
  • I’m afraid that I will not survive.
  • I’m afraid that I will be abandoned.
  • I’m afraid that I have no power over my own life.

They may not be conscious of these fears, but a lack of consciousness of something does not prove that something does not exist.

Let’s say that someone makes a critical error in judgment (like the captain of the Titanic or a sports star who enters into illicit activities). People who make these kinds of mistakes may have fears like the following:

  • I’m afraid I don’t deserve all of the success I have.
  • I’m afraid that people will find out that I am a fraud.
  • I’m afraid that if I don’t do something really great, people won’t love me.
  • I’m afraid that if I make a mistake, people won’t love me.
  • I’m afraid that my life is meaningless.
  • I’m afraid that if people don’t pay attention to me, I will die.
  • I’m afraid that I am really worthless and that my life has no purpose.

And finally, how about the huge mess in the Gulf of Mexico? Here are some of the fears that I’m pretty confident created that particular opportunity for healing:

  • I’m afraid my life is meaningless.
  • I’m afraid that I won’t be able to support my family (or survive) if I tell the truth.
  • I’m afraid that others will criticize me if I do what I think is right.
  • I’m afraid that I will lose control of my life if I say or do what is right.
  • I’m afraid that I will be abandoned if I do the right thing.

See any recurring themes in these lists of fears? One of the most basic fears that keeps people from being who they really are and doing what they came here to do is a fear of the loss or lack of love. Another big fear is not being able to survive. Since the time we are babies, we tend to make a very strong connection between love and survival. Over time, many people also tend to associate money with survival. Maybe this is the most basic fear—we are afraid that we cannot or will not receive the love (or any other symbol for love, like money) we need to survive.

And just in case you are wondering, all of the Love (and every other symbol for Love) that any of us needs is more abundant and more easily accessible to us than the air we breathe. It’s also more abundant and available than all of the water the earth contains. We just need to allow ourselves to receive it.

Let’s go and receive all of the love we need to release all of the fears for our survival that are holding us back from our individual and collective destinies! Instead of fearing death, let’s seek lots and lots of life and share it freely with others!!!!!  WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
