People talk all of the time about how people are dealt various hands in life. In the past I might have resisted that analogy because it tends to reinforce a random view of the cosmos.

Today I’m going to embrace the metaphor and take it to the next level. I’m going to leave how we get the cards we get out of this equation and start this story at the hand that is in front of our faces.

Whatever cards you are holding, however you feel about them right now, they are not the determining factor of your life. What determines your life is the Love you choose to accept and the love you choose to share. Maybe you have interpreted that you have a really crappy hand. Maybe you have that hand so your partner can “go alone.” Maybe you have the hand so that other people can have the perceptions that they need to have to discover the truth for themselves. Maybe you have that hand so that you can discover that Love Trumps Everything. It is the ultimate power in the game of life. It is that which puts all things in their proper perspective.

It is that which has the power to transform the appearance of a crappy hand into a gift for everyone sitting around the table.

Play! Have fun! Enjoy the ride! How can we do these things? Because we can trust that Love is running the show, despite all of the appearances to the contrary? Love makes us all winners, all teammates, all players, all lovers, all members of the same club.

Over the past year or so, I have come to realize that for most of my life I have been way too uptight. It is time for all of us to loosen up, and have a whole lot more fun.

Many of us were taught that being uptight is the way that things get done, the key to safety and security, the best way to stay out of trouble – generally an effective way to get along in the world as it is currently constructed. Life is serious business, and if you relax too much, everything just might fall apart. While this may be a common perception, it is not true. Just because a whole bunch of people are uptight does not mean that this is the most effective and productive way to be.

It is time for us all to RELAX BIG TIME and set our inner Control Freaks free. By relaxing, I’m not talking about doing nothing. I’m just talking about changing our intentions around our doings, havings, and beings. Instead of being frustrated, tense and resistant about what we desire to do, be and have, we can work toward acceptance of what is.

We can be open to the possibilities of seeing the perfection in imperfection and the imperfection in perfection. Actually, I’m really interested in leaving polarities like perfect and imperfect behind altogether. I really want to see things as they are instead of imposing limiting concepts such as these onto the flow of experience.
Our Control Freaks are so familiar that we usually don’t even know that they exist. Over a year ago, I was fascinated by the idea of Control Freaks and even have some unpublished writings in my archives on the topic. I was writing about Control Freaks without even realizing that my perfectionism was a Control Freak too! I like to think I’m a pretty introspective kind of guy, and I was totally clueless about how this pattern was running my life!

If you wonder if you are some kind of Control Freak, just ask to have your Control Freak aspects revealed to you, and circumstances will conspire to show you your various Control Freaks through intense emotions related to something not going the way you think it “should” go.

“Should” is definitely a sign of a Control Freak in need of Love. “Should” is all about judgment, and judgment is a perception that has little room for Love. Love unites. Judgment divides. So love all of the Control Freaks in your life, whether they reside within you or run other people’s lives. Hating, resisting, or fighting them will not help to set them free from limiting loops of thought, feeling, and behavior that have you (and others) trapped.

Allowing one’s inner Control Freak to run the show is like being in prison. Not only are you constantly judging other people but yourself as well. And while it may not be obvious on the surface that this is really causing any harm, I’m telling you that everyone and everything around you can feel your judgment, even if they can’t tell you exactly what’s going on.

You are more powerful than you can imagine. The control freaks you encounter (from within and without) are just aspects of consciousness choosing to accept fear as being more real than love. Eventually they will see the light. Eventually they will lighten up and have more fun. The best way to help that to happen is to love unconditionally. Let us believe it for now. Ultimately we will all know it.
